“Everybody dance, do-do-do, Clap your hands, clap your hands”

Listen on Mixcloud

I initially wasn’t sure about this episode when I was recording it. I’d already thrown away an aborted attempt when I had that classic DJ nightmare of not picking a good next track before the current one had finished playing. At that point I’d lost the energy to have another go. But I stuck with it and by the time I threw on a remix of Chic’s “Everybody Dance” I found myself singing along like a total fool. I really like this episode, some big chunky disco-drenched grooves going on here. And it ends with one of my favourite house tunes of all time, Fire Island’s “If You Should Need A Friend”, a big uplifting piano anthem with a positive message.

“Let Yourself Go” with another 60 minute mix of old house music.

Listen on Mixcloud

These episodes come about in varying ways. Sometimes I know exactly what I’m going to play. At other times I make it up on the spot (like with the previous episode – “That London Sound”). This time it’s a little of both. I had the first four songs picked and then winged it from there. What we end up with is a mix with a split personality. It starts with a vibe that flirts between funky and jacking but at the halfway make we go into progressive and melodic territory.

Tracklisting:

1. Karen Ramirez – If We Try (Silk’s Disco Anthem)
2. Kerri Chandler – Downtown
3. Gettoblaster & Chris Larsen (CA) Ft.DJ Dagwood – Bounce Yo Body
4. Richard F. – Feel The Rhythm
5. Lianne La Havas – Elusive
6. Photon Inc. – Give A little Love (Photon’s Disco House Mix Ramon Tapia Rerub)
7. Cevin Fisher – House Music (Supernova Remix)
8. Datar – B (Tarrentella & Redankas’ NYSC Mix)
9. Mark Knight & Funkagenda – Man With The Red Face (Original Club Mix)
10. Beltek – Running Backwards
11. Chuck Roberts/Khrizz Tapia – My House (Khrizz Tapia Bootleg)

The post Episode 26 – The New Year Detox Mix (Live Set) appeared first on Retro House Mixtape.

Is it the weekend already? I guess it’s time for another episode of Retro House Mixtape. It’s a bit of a last minute effort this week. I had a whole other episode ready to go but the weather here in the U.K. has been so amazingly hot I felt it necessary to put together a mix to compliment it. I went back and recorded another mix consisting of tunes that sound great when blasted out in the sunshine. That final moment where Crazy P’s ‘Sun Science’ and Baby D come together is somewhat sublime. Hopefully it’ll hit the spot for you during this sunniest of spells.

As always, don’t forget to follow Retro House Mixtape and share/retweet this mix across Twitter , Facebook and Mixcloud.  You can also find Retro House Mixtape on Instagram if you fancy looking at some nice pics of vinyl covers.
