We’re Out of Control with another episode of Retro House Mixtape.

Hello there! It’s another 60 minute mix of lovely old house music from the 90’s and early 2000’s. I really enjoyed putting this episode together. There are some long transitions in the first half of the mix where the tracks just kind of melt into each other (that being said, the mix into ‘Out of Control’ does get a bit wobbly for a moment thanks to a technical issue). Then the energy switches up at the mid-way point and everything kicks up a gear for the finale.

Fun little story about the opening track “Bad Things” by Njoi. I bought this back when it came out in 1995 but for some reason I sold it as part of a big clear out prior to moving to Bournemouth in 1999. Fast forward to a year ago, this track randomly popped into my head. I was then immediately kicking myself having sold my copy of it all those years ago. Less than 48 hours later I’m in town with a little time to kill. I pop into a charity shop (I’m obsessed with picking up second hand cd’s) and sitting there in the vinyl rack was this very record. What are the odds? I couldn’t believe it! In excellent condition and only £4. I snapped it straight up. Glad to have it back in my collection.

I was bouncing around the room whilst putting this together. I like how it flips halfway through from a clubby vibe into more disco-edged grooves. AS usual it’s mostly retro house jams but there’s also a cheeky addition of ‘As We Step’ by the Audio Bullys, a more recent tune that is dripping with retro vibes.

Episode 15 is the first new mix to appear on the new website! It starts off on a funky vibe with a little side serving of David Bowie and a mini drop into some hip-hop. There is also an appearance from the legendary Joey Negro plus one of my favourite tunes from Pizzaman (aka Fatboy Slim). By the end though we are largely into ‘thumping house’ territory with the rave tinged ‘Invader’ finishing things off.

I might need to cool things down again next week!
