Episode 70 – Old Skool Deep House Mix

Paul @ Retro House Mixtape — Tue, 12 Nov 2019 22:03:49 +0000

It’s a bit of a change up for this week’s episode of Retro House Mixtape as I pull out a selection of old skool deep house cuts. Particular favourites of mine include the opening track, a Gui Boratto remix of Massive Attack and a Shadow Child remix of ‘Strong’ by London Grammar. Despite the deeper tone I still manage to squeeze in a couple of bangers towards the end. I just can’t resist the pull of tunes that make me want to dance like a nutter.

Tracklisting:

Massive Attack – Paradise Circus (feat. Hope Sandoval) (Gui Boratto Remix)
Olive – Outlaw (Phunk Phorce Mix)
London Grammar – Strong (Shadow Child 4/4 remix)
Dave Kurtis – You Got Me (Original Mix)
Gus Gus Ft. Daniel Agust – Moss (Tim Deluxe Remix)
Holden & Thompson – Nothing (Original)
Goldfrapp – Strict Machine (Benni Bennasi Sfaction Remix)
Sharooz – Hell Yeah
Sandy Rivera – I Can’t Stop (David Penn Remix)
Whilk & Misky – Clap Your Hands (Zima’s Club Mix)

As it happens I did another ‘deeper shades’ mix exactly a year ago. You can check it out via this link.

Retro House Mixtape – Episode 43

Things get REALLY mashed-up on Retro House Mixtape this week. You’ve got funky vocal house to kick things off, we drop into some proper disco vibes courtesy of Masters At Work and Todd Edwards. We then segway into some balearic-ish vibes with Murk’s remix of ‘Miracle’ by Olive and then it goes a bit tribal before the big fat speed-garage style baselines come in.

Tracklisting:

Afro-Cube – Muevete Mama (Broder Mix)
Andrea Mendez – Bring Me Love (Mark’s Massive Vocal)
Agent Sumo – 24 Hours
The Braxtons – The Boss (Masters At Work Album Mix)
Wild Child – Jump To My Beat (Todd Edwards remix)
Olive – Miracle (Murk Club Mix)
Michelle Q – Heartache (Junior Mix)
Jamiroquai – Electric Mistress (Todd Edwards Mix)
Martin Solveig & Stephy Haïk – Cabo Parano (Claude Monnet Remix)
Alexander O’Neal – Criticize ’98 (’98 Dub Mix)
Goldie – Believe (Groove Chronicles Vocal Mix)
Smokin Beats – Dreams (Mongorillo Dreams Mix)
CZR feat. Darryl Pandy – Bad Enough (Undagroundiscofunk Rmx)

Retro House Mixtape – Episode 18

Blimey! Last week’s episode was a bit of a barnstormer wasn’t it? Huge thanks to everybody who checked it out, shared it and commented on it. I hope you like this week’s house music mix just as much.

Fun fact: The opening track, ‘Montana’ by Way Out West, was amongst the first records that I practised mixing with when I bought my first set of turntables way back in 1994.

Fun fact #2: The questionably titled ‘Wankers On Duty’ is actually ‘Da Hool’ of ‘Meet Her At The Love Parade’ fame.

1. Way Out West – Montana (Sub-Bass Trance Mix)
2. Matter – Don’t You Want Some More (Dillon and Dickens Boo T3 Mix)
