Episode 95 – Back to ’95 Mix

Paul @ Retro House Mixtape — Sat, 05 Sep 2020 08:00:00 +0000

It’s another trip back to the 90’s as we head into the mid-decade decadence of 1995. The year when I started DJing on the regular in various bars and clubs in the town where I grew up. It was certainly an exciting year for the 17-year-old me. This ‘Back to ’95 Mix’ includes some big tunes including a ‘live remix’ of The Bucketheads.

Nu-Soul feat Kelli Rich – Hideaway (Lisa Marie Experience Remix)
Happy Clappers – I Believe (Bathtub Dub)
Shiva – Work It Out (Morales Classic Club Mix)
Plux – Over & Over (Eat Me 12″)
The Bucketheads – The Bomb! (Live Re-edit)
Leftfield – Afro-Left (Afro-Left)
Mory Kante – Yeke Yeke (Hardloor Remix)
Sugarbabies – Magic in U (Positive Groove Mix)
Pizzaman – Sex On the Streets (Dub)
Donna Summer – I Feel Love (Rollo & Sister Bliss Monster Mix)
Up Yer Ronson – Lost In Love (Sasha Remix)
Antic – The Ultimate
KW – Breakin’ Away (Matt Darey Dub)

Episode 87 (Two Year Anniversary DJ Set)

Paul @ Retro House Mixtape — Sat, 20 Jun 2020 10:03:37 +0000

Retro House Mixtape is two years old! Two whole years since I first came up with the idea for the show. How the time flies! Thanks to everyone who has been along for the ride and shown their support during this time. This week’s show is a slightly extended episode with some up-for it tunes. I particularly liked dropping two all time favourites track of mine at the end, ‘Be As One’ by Sasha and ‘The Gift’ by Way Out West. The acappella drop of ‘Finally’ over the last track was also an enjoyable improvised moment.

Tracklisting:

Silicone Soul – Right On! – 12″ Disco Edit
Soulsearcher – Cant Get Enough [Milldyke Refix]
Sessomatto – Movin’ On
Simon Grey – The Galactica Suite (4tothefloor Mix)
Bobby D’Ambrosio – Moment Of My Life (M&S Epic Klub Mix)
Röyksopp – Poor Leno (Silicone Soul’s Hypno House Dub)
Hoxton Whores vs. U2 – Lemon (Remix)
The Fog – Been A Long Time (Rhythm Masters Main Mix)
Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley – Jack Your Body (Hardfloor Remix)
Nick K – Don’t Lie (Original Mix)
Sandy Rivera & Rae – Hide U (Sandy Rivera’s Club Mix)
Sasha & Maria – Be As One
Way Out West – The Gift (Club Mix)
Kings Of Tomorrow – Finally (Acapella)

Episode 7 – At Night

Paul @ Retro House Mixtape — Tue, 31 Jul 2018 23:08:37 +0000

This episode almost nearly didn’t happen. A few short hours ago a couple of free tickets to Bestival were placed into my hands, talk about a jammy piece of luck! I’ve had to turn this episode out super quick at the last minute whilst frantically packing for a weekend of camping and festival shenanigans. It starts off on an old school house music vibe but by the end it’s properly chugging along.

There are a few choice cuts in there this week. ‘At Night’ by Shakedown is having a huge resurgence thanks to some excellent new remixes by Purple Disco Machine and Peggy Gou, I thought I’d throw in the Kid Creme mix which still sounds great today. There’s also the superb remix of ‘Show Me Love’ by Todd Edwards where he takes an all time classic tune and totally reworks it into something brilliant. Finally I also wanted to get the Hardfloor remix of ‘Blue Monday’ by New Order in there somewhere as it’s having a mini revival here in the U.K. thanks to a TV advert.

Hope you enjoy it. Don’t forget to share it with anyone else who digs a bit of house music.
